Standard Alchemy is led by trumpet and guitar — small enough to fit a corner of the room, built to grow when the occasion calls for it.
Zan spent over twenty years as lead trumpet in showbands — in the U.S. Army and Navy, and aboard Royal Caribbean — before settling in Western Colorado, where he led the jazz quartet Mixed Bag Jazz before founding Standard Alchemy.
Raised in an artists' community outside New York City by two internationally touring Medieval and Renaissance musicians, Stefan grew up steeped in music alongside his three brothers. A magna cum laude graduate of Berklee College of Music, he's played rock, R&B, funk, disco, and jazz stages, arriving at a jazz-blues style of his own shaped by Hendrix, Clapton, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Wes Montgomery, and Charlie Parker. Beyond Standard Alchemy, he performs across Colorado's Western Slope with two other bands. He’s also the chef behind Chef Stefan Inc, catering gatherings of 30 or more — so your event can have the food and the music from one conversation.

Standard Alchemy is based in Montrose and plays throughout the Western Slope — Delta, Olathe, Ridgway, Ouray, Telluride, and Grand Junction are all well within range, with additional travel available by arrangement.
